Academic Support

Mission Statement
The Academic Success Program provides personnel and services to support, direct, and grow student development, academic achievement, academic athletics eligibility, and progress toward graduation. These services are dedicated to facilitate student performance and personal responsibility. The services and procedures of the program are to be congruent with Lindenwood University’s educational mission and its academic policies.

Academic Success Center

The Academic Success Center (ASC) opened in fall 2012 and is located on the second floor of the Student-Athlete Center. The space features a computer lab and study space reserved for student-athlete use and includes free resources to student-athletes such as computers, printing, wi-fi, tutor rooms, and a quiet study environment.

Hours of Operation
The hours for the ASC are as follows during the regular school year*:
Monday-Thursday: 7:30 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Friday: 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Saturday: Closed
Sunday: 12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
*Changes in hours will be posted in the ASC.

Rules and Regulations
- All student-athletes must check in and out at the front desk every time they enter and exit the ASC.  Students will scan their ID cards at the check-in computer.
- If students do not have their ID card, they may check in/out by manually entering their ID number.
- Students who leave the ASC without swiping out will be at risk of losing all accumulated study hall hours for that day.
- The ASC is to be used for studying only.  Students watching game film, movies, checking in on social media sites, on their phones, etc. may be asked to check out and leave the ASC.
- Tutor appointments have priority in using the meeting rooms and the cubicle study spaces.  Tutor space may be utilized by students up until the point space is needed for a tutoring session.

Academic Mentor Program
Academic mentor meetings will be available as an additional academic support tool.  Mentor meetings and academic plans will be customized to the individual student-athlete.  All meetings will take place in the ASC and will be set up through the team academic coordinator.  Student-athletes will be notified at the beginning of each semester if they have required academic mentor meetings.

Tutoring Services
Tutors are available on campus through the individual colleges, online through the SmartThinking service via the student portal, and through the ASC.   Student-athletes may log into GradesFirst or contact their academic coordinator to request tutoring.  Please note that tutors are not available for all classes.

Expectations of Student-Athletes
- Once an appointment has been scheduled, attendance becomes mandatory. Any appointment cancellations or changes must be made through the Tutor Coordinator or your team academic coordinator.
-  All cancellations must be made 24-hrs in advance. Acceptable reasons for cancellation: team travel, illness, personal emergency, or immediately following an exam.
- Repeated tardiness and/or missing appointments could result in loss of tutoring priviledges.
- Tutoring is not to be used as a replacement for attending class and studying on your own.  Come prepared with your book, notes, and other necessary materials and actively participate in the session.

Study Hall Hours
Study hall hours are required by all incoming freshmen and for those transfers and returners who do not meet minimum team academic standards.  Study hall hours are earned at any time a student is checked in to the ASC and are tracked when the student checks in/out at the front desk.  All study hall hours must take place in the ASC unless prior arrangements have been made with the designated team academic coordinator.
