Lindenwood women's hockey head coach
Scott Spencer announced the team's captains for the upcoming 2017-18 season.
Britannia Gillanders and
Shannon Morris-Reade will serve as co-captains for the season, and will be joined by assistant captains
Courtney Ganske and
Ally Larson.
"This year's group brings a number of great leadership qualities to our young team," said Spencer. "They are a driven group that has talent, and understands what needs to be done to keep moving our program in the right direction. They carry themselves as professionals and understand the responsibilities that come with being a captain."
Gillanders, an assistant captain a year ago, was the team's leading scorer last season, tallying seven goals and six assists. The Kyle, Saskatchewan native ranks ninth in program history in career points, and is tied for seventh all-time in goals scored.
Morris-Reade was one of five players to skate in all 33 of Lindenwood's games last season. The Port Coquitlam, British Columbia product served as an assistant captain during the 2016-17 campaign, and totaled seven points playing as a left winger on the team's top two lines.
During her freshman season in 2016-17, Ganske was the team's top-scoring defender, collecting five goals in 29 games. Ganske, originally from Killarney, Manitoba, led the Lions with 50 blocked shots last year, and was selected to the CHA All-Rookie team.
Larson was also a fixture on the blue line for Lindenwood in 2016-17, dressing in 29 contests and consistently occupying a spot on the team's top defensive pairing. A native of West Vancouver, British Columbia, Larson has accumulated 13 points over her two seasons as a Lion.
Lindenwood will open its season on Friday evening in Madison, Wis. for the first of two games against the No. 2 Wisconsin Badgers. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from LaBahn Arena.
