Gaspar Alvarez and
Ryan Butchart of the Lindenwood men's soccer team were selected to the CoSIDA academic all-district first-team which was announced on Thursday afternoon. The CoSIDA academic all-district teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Alvarez, a business economics major, appeared in 16 matches for Lindenwood this season, including five starts. The Santiago, Chile native scored three goals and dished out one assist during his sophomore season. Alvarez contributed defensively for the Lions, helping the team hold its opponents to 1.12 goals a game, the third-lowest total in the MIAA.
Butchart, a spanish with K-12 certification major, started 11 matches and appeared in 15 contests for the Lions. A native of St. Louis, Mo., Butchart tied for fourth on the team with two assists this season. The senior midfielder had eight shots on goal.
Both Alvarez and Butchart will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be announced in December.
