The Lindenwood men's soccer team fell to the Fort Hays Tigers 1-0 in overtime of the NCAA Central Regional Final from FHSU Soccer Stadium in Hays, Kan. The Tigers scored the golden goal 1:56 into the first overtime period.
The postseason match was the third meeting of the season between the MIAA rivals, and the familiarity between the teams was evident early on. However only two of those Lindenwood shots were on net, and were both turned aside by the Fort Hays keeper. The Lions held the Tigers without a shot on goal during the second half. The score held at zero after regulation and the match headed for a sudden-death overtime period.
As the 92nd minute of the match was coming to a close, Fort Hays scored the golden goal, winning the match by a final score of 1-0. Michael Cole was credited with the game-winning score, his sixth goal of the season.
