The Lindenwood wrestling team won its first ever MIAA regular season championship on Saturday afternoon in St. Charles after the Lions beat Newman Jets 33-10.
Things started quickly for Lindenwood when
Marco Tamayo won the dual's opening match 6-5. The next two matches were forfeit wins for the Lions which led to a commanding 15-0 lead early.
Derrick Weller recorded a pin in the first period which extended the Lions lead. Batchka Zuulkhuu also won via a 5-0 decision followed by
John McArdle pinning his opponent in the first period.
Kenny Breaux fell in the 197 pound match but Jacob Borgmeyer won the final match of the day 10-4.
The regular season conference championship was the school's third overall MIAA title in just two seasons.
