Women's Gymnastics Stays Perfect Against Conference Opponents

The Lindenwood gymanstics team improved to 3-0 against conference opponents after winning its home opener on Friday night at the Family Arena. The Lady Lions defeated Texas Woman's and Centenary in a tri-meet competition.

Lindenwood finished with a team score of 194.625, its second-highest in program history and the highest during a home meet. Texas Woman's was second with 190.500 points, followed by Centenary with 188.125.

The Lady Lions won the team title in all four events. Its vault score of 48.475 was the sixth-highest in program history, its bars score of 48.800 and beam score of 48.575 were the second-best marks in school history, and the floor score was the fourth-highest. Lindenwood's total marked the second time this year that it recorded over 48.000 on all four events.

Just five days after her teammate broke the school's all-around record, Kierstin Sokolowski set a new mark in that category. Sokolowski had a final score of 39.175, 0.100 higher than the previous record. She won the vault, floor, and all-around events, finished second on the bars, and sixth on the beam. Sokolowski tied a school record with a 9.875 on the vault, and had the second-highest score on the floor with a 9.825.

Valeri Ingui put up another high all-around score with a 38.950, which placed second at the competition and was the fourth-highest in program history. She won the beam with a score of 9.825, which was fifth-best at Lindenwood. Ingui also had a 9.775 on the bars and floor.

Rachel Zabawa had a 9.750 in all three of her events. She tied Sokolowski for the floor title with a 9.825. She also had a 9.775 on the vault and a 9.750 on the beam.

Courtney Heise won the bars competition with a 9.825, which was a top-ten mark at Lindenwood. Aubree Horn had at least a 9.700 in both of her routines. She had a 9.750 on the vault and a 9.700 on the beam. Other top marks included Trystien Charles having a 9.725 on the bars, Lauren Cartmell recording a 9.750 on the beam, and Hannah Rector finishing with a 9.700 on the floor.

Lindenwood continues its homestand on Feb. 22 with another MIC match, this one against Illinois State.
