Women's Hockey Adds Samantha Ullrich To Coaching Staff

Lindenwood women's hockey head coach Vince O'Mara announced today that Samantha Ullrich has been hired to fill out the Lady Lions' coaching staff for the 2013-14 season.
Samantha Ullrich
Ullrich brings four years of College Hockey America (CHA) experience to Lindenwood after being a four-year letterwinner at Robert Morris from 2005-09. She was a defenseman for the Colonials and played in 130 games in her career. She had five goals and 32 assists over her four seasons at Robert Morris, and she helped the program improve its record all four years that she was on the roster.

Ullrich was a member of the inaugural Robert Morris team in 2005-06 and was named to the CHA all-Rookie team. She was the top scoring defender and was fourth overall on the team with nine points. Ullrich also recorded the first multi-assist game in Robert Morris history and had the game-winning goal against Vermont. As a sophomore, she was named the team's co-Defensive Player of the Year by her teammates. She recorded nine points that season.

Ullrich had a career-best 11 points during the 2007-08 campaign, including her best single-game offensive performance with two goals and an assist against Sacred Heart. She finished fifth on the team in assists. As a senior, Ullrich added eight more assists to her career total and helped Robert Morris have its best season in the CHA up to that point.

Since her playing days have ended, Ullrich has been an assistant coach for the Team Pittsburgh U19 AAA team. She was a part of the program which won the 2010 USA Hockey National Championship and the 2010 International Silver Sticks Championship.

"We are excited to have Sam join our staff," said O'Mara. "Not only does she bring NCAA DI playing experience with her, she also brings the experience of being part of a program beginning its NCAA DI existence. So she knows all about the growing pains and what it takes to improve year in and year out."

"Sam will be a big part of our staff taking over the duties of video coach. Her coaching experience at the AAA level will carry over to this level making it a smooth transition being on the ice for practices and on the bench for games. Sam will be very instrumental in the development of all of our student-athletes both academically and athletically."

Ullrich is originally from St. Louis and attended Lindbergh High School, where she was a member of the boys hockey team for four seasons. The former member of the CHA all-academic team graduated from Robert Morris in 2010 with a degree in elementary education, and she will receive her masters in Literacy from Robert Morris this fall.
