Gymnastics Has Second-Best Score Of Season In Final Home Meet

The Lady Lions gymnastics squad ended its home schedule on Sunday afternoon with one of its top performances of the season. Lindenwood recorded its second-highest score of the year in the competition against conference rival Texas Woman's.

Lindenwood finished with a team score of 191.950, just 0.100 shy of its team record set against Bowling Green. Texas Woman's won the competition with a score of 192.750. The two teams were separated by just 0.175 points entering the fourth rotation, but the Pioneers had four scores of 9.80 or better on the beam to seal the victory.

The Lady Lions finished with a team record in the beam with a mark of 48.500. They also had the second-highest score on the vault (47.875) and the floor (48.200). Lindenwood defeated Texas Woman's on the floor, while Texas Woman's outscored Lindenwood in the other three events.

Lindenwood started the competition on the vault. Rachel Zabawa was the highlight with a score of 9.800, which was a new school record. Zabawa's mark also tied for the highest score on the afternoon. Daniela Fumagalli (9.550) and Emily Turik (9.575) tied their season-highs in the event.

On the bars, Turik and Courtney Heise led Lindenwood with marks of 9.750 and the two tied for second in the individual standings for the event. Valeri Ingui had a season-high of 9.300 in that event.

Lindenwood had three gymnasts set season-highs in the beam competition, led by Ingui with a 9.775. Zabawa also had a 9.775 for the event which was the third-best mark all-season by a Lady Lion in the beam. Other season-highs came from Heise (9.650) and Lauren Cartmell (9.650). Trystien Charles competed in the beam for the first time this season and scored a 9.625.

On the floor, Zabawa concluded a strong meet with a team-high score of 9.800, tying for her best mark of the season and the second-best mark by any Lady Lion. Heise was second on the team with a 9.700.

In the all-around competition, Heise had the highest score on the day with a 38.625. Turik was second with a 38.425 and Ingui was third with a season-high 38.125.

Lindenwood concludes its regular season with this event. The Lady Lions begin post-season play on March 23 at the MIC Championship in Shreveport, La.
