Lions to Celebrate Earl Austin Jr. Night

Lindenwood University and the men's basketball program will celebrate "Earl Austin Jr. Night" on Nov. 19 against the Maryville Saints. The university will retire Earl Austin's jersey #41 as part of the celebration.

Austin has his named littered all over the Lindenwood basketball record book. Austin played at Lindenwood from 1982-86 and left the program as its all-time leading scorer with 1,972 points scored. His 56 percent field goal percentage is also tops in program history. The St. Louis native is also second in history with 840 rebounds and second in field goals made with 546.

His best season in a Lions uniform came in 1985-86 when he averaged 21.6 points and 9.6 rebounds. His scoring average that year is the highest by any Lion in the program's history.

"I am completely honored and humbled by this honor that has been bestowed on my by a school that I have loved for over 30 years. I still follow the athletic department and basketball program to this day," Austin said. "I would like to thank everybody who has made the man I became at Lindenwood from former coaches, players, and my family. I would like to thank the University for this Honor, especially President Evans, John Creer, and Brad Soderberg."

"Earl Austin Jr. is truly a St. Louis treasure and an ambassador of sport for the entire metro area," head coach Brad Soderberg said. "I consider it a pleasure to have worked with Earl while at SLU and an even greater reward to now have him as a distinguished alum of my new school."

Austin's jersey will be the first to be retired in program history.
