Lions Top Iowa State 8-1

Men's ice hockey took advantage of a five minute major penalty in the second period to score three goals on the way to an 8-1 win over Iowa State Friday night at the Lindenwood Ice Arena.  It was the 13th straight win for the Lions as they improved to 11-2 at home.

Jeremy Meletti led the team as he picked up a hat trick with three goals on the night.  Grant Gorczyca added two and Colin Long, Steve Brancheau, and Neeco Belanger each lit the lamp once.  Lindenwood outshot the Cyclones 33-26 and was three for six on the power play while holding Iowa State scoreless on five attempts.  Goalie Linus Ahgren stopped 25 of 26 shots for the win between the pipes.

The Lions improved to 13-0 in the Central States Collegiate Hockey League (CSCHL) and 24-4 overall.  Lindenwood will look to keep the winning streak alive Saturday afternoon as they host the Cyclones in another CSCHL contest.  The Lions will honor four seniors prior to the game.  Defensemen Tyler Bowman, Colin Long, and Bret Morrell, along with forward Niklas Bunnstedt will all be playing their last regular season home game for Lindenwood.  Senior Night festivities begin at 3:45 p.m. prior to the start of the game at 4 p.m.
