The Lindenwood wrestling team had a successful weekend as it finished runner up at the NCWA Conference Championships. Six wrestlers finished in the top three including two first place finishers, while five other Lions placed sixth.
The Lions dominated the tournament as they finished regional runner up behind Notre Dame College. Leading the Lions were
Blayne Shockely, who placed first in the 125 pound weight class, and
Clayton Macfarlane recording a first place finish in the 165 pound division. Shockely posted one pinfall and a technical decision before winning his final two contests by decision. Macfarlane also won his championship contest by decision after recording two major decisions.
Cullen Halpin and
Jed Mamie finished second in their respective divisions both falling by decision in the championship bout.
Michael Caldwell and
Chris Sanders placed thid in their weight classes where both competitors had to work their way through the wrestleback to place.
Multiple Lions also placed sixth in their weight classes including
Jacob Janes in the 141 pound weight class, Daniel Briet in the 157 pound division and Jacob Johnson in the 174 pound weight class.
Spenser Daniels and
Austin Garza also finished sixth with Daniels placing in the 230 pound weight class and Garza recording the finish in the heavyweight division.
The men's wrestling team will be back in action as they travel to Daytona Beach, Fla., for the NCWA National Championship from March 8-11. Meet time is set to begin at 9 a.m.
