The Lindenwood women's ice hockey team continued its winning streak on Friday night with a 6-5 overtime victory at Saint Michael's. The victory was the fifth straight for the Lady Lions against NCAA competition and the first overtime win of the season.
The Lady Lions never trailed in the game until Saint Michael's scored at the 17:32 mark of the third period. That lead lasted just eight seconds as
Jordyn Constance quickly tied the game for Lindenwood and forced an overtime period.
In overtime, the two teams traded penalties back and forth. The last penalty was called on the Purple Knights and gave Lindenwood a power-play opportunity.
Alison Wickenheiser took advantage with Lindenwood first power-play goal of the night to give the Lady Lions the win at the 4:34 mark of the extra period.
The game-winning goal was Wickenheiser's third of the game and gave her back-to-back hat tricks. She has now scored seven goals in the last three games and has a team-high 18 on the season.
Kendra Broad, Constance, and
Samantha Redick had the other goals.
Caitlyn Post recorded two assists, and eight other Lady Lions had one assist.
Taylor Fairchild made 27 saves and won her fifth game of the season.
Lindenwood improves to 7-21-0 on the season. The Lady Lions conclude their season on Saturday afternoon against Saint Michael's.
