Former Lindenwood football Brian Schaefering returned to the NFL yesterday. The Dallas Cowboys signed Schaefering last week and he made one tackle during the team's 27-24 overtime victory over Pittsburgh on Sunday.
Schaefering was a member of the Cleveland Browns from 2009-11. He appeared in 37 games for the Browns and made 72 tackles and two sacks from his nose tackle position.
Schaefering, who played for Lindenwood during the 2007 season, was a first-team all-conference selection and an honorable mention All-American as a Lion. He led the team in 2007 with 6.5 sacks and was tied for second in the HAAC and 19th in the NAIA with 0.70 sacks a game. He also recorded 19 solo tackles, 18 assisted tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, one fumble recovery, and one blocked kick. Schaefering helped Lindenwood to a 10-2 record that year, including a 10-0 mark in games in which he appeared.
Schaefering is originally from St. Louis and played at Hazelwood East High School. He was a member of the football team at Illinois before transferring to Lindenwood.
