Lindenwood Community Rallies To Support Injured Student

Nearly 300 people attended a prayer service Thursday in Hunter Stadium in support of Lindenwood University freshman Sterling Thomas, who suffered a severe spinal cord injury Saturday in the Lions' victory over Missouri Southern.

Speakers included Lindenwood President James D. Evans, Athletics Director John Creer, Coach Patrick Ross, Head Athletic Trainer Randy Biggerstaff, team captain Malach Radigan, and Thomas' youth pastor from his home in Tulsa, Okla., Justin Taylor.

Ross told the crowd he was impressed by the Lindenwood community's support for Thomas and encouraged them to “be there for Sterling six months from now and a year from now” as well.

Radigan talked about Thomas' strong work ethic and constant drive for improvement. He also reflected on praying alongside Thomas on many occasions.

The common thread of the brief prayer service was support and prayer for Thomas and his family during his recovery.

After the service, hundreds of bracelets that say “ST #27 – LU SOLDIER” were being sold. All proceeds go to assist the Thomas family with their expenses. Anyone seeking to contribute to the Sterling Thomas fund at Lindenwood University should call Jane Baum at 636 949-4427 or email her at jbaum@lindenwood.edu.
