Shauna Isbell captured the individual championship in the 130 pound division at the 2012 Women's College Wrestling Association (WCWA) College Nationals over the weekend in Bristol, Tennessee. It was not only the first women's collegiate wrestling national championship for Isbell, but the first in history for Coach Toccara Montgomery and the Lindenwood women's wrestling program overall.
The Lady Lions earned a total of 64 team points to finish in fourth place for the event, 13 behind third place Simon Fraser University (Canada) and 27 behind second place King College (Tenn.). Oklahoma City University dominated competition with a total of 141 points and six individual titles to win its fourth consecutive WCWA Championship.
Along with Isbell's championship, three other Lindenwood wrestlers finished in the top three in their class including Kendra Lewis who took second at 170 pounds, Tanya Kusse who finished third in the 143 pound division and Brittany David who took third in the 155 pound class.
Four other Lady Lions finished in the top five including India Walker who took fourth at 109 pounds and Priscilla Caldera (123 pounds), Rachel Shannon (136 pounds) and Crystal Borrow (143 pounds) who all finished fifth in their weight class.
The following 10 Lady Lions were named All-Americans: Shauna Isbell, Kendra Lewis, Brittany David, Tanya Kusse, India Walker, Rachel Shannon, Crystal Borrow, Priscilla Caldera, Courtney Kinimaka and Jenny Garza.
Lindenwood women's wrestling is back in action again this weekend at the Dave Schultz Memorial International Open in Colorado Springs, Colorado February 3.
