Women's Hockey Earns First Win Over A NCAA Division I Opponent

The Lindenwood women's ice hockey team earned its first win in school history over a NCAA Division I program on Friday night in Bridgeport, Conn. The Lady Lions also set another first with a shutout in a 4-0 win over Sacred Heart.

Offensively, Lindenwood received a spark just 82 seconds into the game from two of its returning letterwinners. Sarah Oliphant scored her first goal of the season and Amy Stober assisted on the score. The third goal of the game was also caused by two veterans as Allysson Arcibal scored with an assist from Brett Lobreau.

The team's newcomers also contributed as Caitlyn Post and Alison Wickenheiser had goals, and Kendra Broad, Katie Erickson, and Sydney Gorzitza all had assists.

Defensively, Taylor Fairchild played all 60 minutes in goal and made 25 saves for her first collegiate shutout. Ten of those saves came on the penalty kill as Lindenwood held Sacred Heart scoreless on six power-play opportunities.

Fifteen players for Lindenwood were positive plus-minus for the game, including Gorzitza with a +3 mark and Alyssa West with a +2. West dominated faceoffs, winning 17-of-26.

Lindenwood will go for its first two-game sweep over an opponent on Saturday afternoon when the Lady Lions and Pioneers take the ice for the final game of the series.
