The men's and women's tennis teams competed in the 2011 Lynn Imergoot Invitational Tournament at Washington University in St. Louis this weekend. Teams participating included St. Louis University, University of Missouri-St. Louis and Washington University in St. Louis.
On the men's side, seven players participated in singles action for Lindenwood with only one individual advancing out of the first round. In A singles,
Rodrigo Traldi fell to Ross Putterman but
Eric Tucoulou moved on to the championship finals. However due to weather conditions, all matches on Sunday were cancelled.
Mario Cal and
Gauthier Schilling competed in the B singles while
William Hale and
Otavio Costa participated in C singles.
The men's team also competed in doubles action with Traldi and Tucoulou losing to Putterman and Putterman from Washington University. Schilling and Costa made it to the semi-finals but lost in closely contested match, 8-3 to Mohanty and Mulhall from Washington University. Cal and Hale also competed in the doubles bracket.
In women's singles,
Adela Slovakova and
Mariona Pinol both fell in the opening round of the A division.
Sarah Sharpe and
Brigitte Bustamante lost in the opening round of the B singles while
Rachel Bailey advanced to play Lety Garcia in the semi-finals of the C singles.
The Lady Lions teamed up to play in doubles action as well. Slovakova and Sharpe matched up for the weekend, ending with an overall record of 7-24. Bustamante and Pinol were paired up, along with Bailey and
Severine DeBeuf who finished 9-24 on the weekend.
The Lindenwood tennis teams will be back in action against local competition this week. The men's team will host the University of Missouri-St. Louis while the Lady Lions travel to Maryville University. Both matches will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 4 p.m.
