The Lindenwood track and field team traveled to Canton, Missouri this weekend for the HAAC Outdoor Championships, with the women taking the title and the men finishing second. The women's team finished with 202 points, six points better than second place William Jewell. The men's team tallied 191 points, just 13 points behind Baker. The women captured nine first-place finishes, and the men snagged four event titles.
Winners for the women included Celia M'Boua taking the crown in both the long jump and triple jump, Natasha Mouratidou winning the javelin throw, Keith Kotan placing first in the 400 meter run, Terah Fullman winning the 800 meter run, Teneignue Coulibaly winning the 200 meter run, and
Jessica Ching coming away as champion of the 5000 meter race walk. The women also won both the 4x800 meter and 4x100 meter relays.
Titles on the men's side included Mike Reynoso in the 400 meter hurdles, Bruno Boccalotta in the hammer throw, Jim Freeman in the shot put, and Gerrico Shanklin in the high jump.
Notable finishes for the women were Coulibaly placing second in the 400 meter run, Claudia Mieke finishing second in the heptathlon, Cythia Aoufoh and Coulibaly placing second and third, respectively, in the 100 meter dash, Kotan finishing third in the 200 meter dash, and Aoufoh placing second in the triple jump.
On the men's side, notable finishes included Mitchell Heady and Freeman coming in third and fourth, respectively, in the hammer throw, Ben McGraw placing second in the 1500 meter run and third in the 5000 meter run, Dwayne Ferguson placing third in the 400 meter run, Jaleen White coming in second followed by Demetrius Jackson in third in the triple jump, Mathius Harris finishing second in the 100 meter dash. The men also finished second in the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays, while placing third in the 4x800 meter relay.
The Lions will return to action next weekend when they head to Emporia, Kansas to compete in the ESU Sam Williams Twilight Qualifier.
