Clay Target Team Wins Eighth Consecutive National Championship

For the eighth consecutive year, the Lindenwood Clay Target Shooting team has won a national championship. Competing at the ACUI Intercollegiate National Championships in San Antonio, Texas, the Lions closest competitor was Southeastern Illinois College who finished over 50 points behind.

For the second consecutive year the Lions won every single team event. Not only did the team receive the highest honors but Rob Auerbach won the high overall individual title and Sarah Hughes won the women's title.

American Trap

The competition started off with the Lions winning their first individual title in American Trap. Brendan Appel won the on the men's side while his teammate Casey Van Sant finished third.

The Lady Lions did not finish first, but six out of the top 10 were Lindenwood shooters. Megan Orle led the way finishing in second place.

In the team event the Lions beat Southeastern Illinois College by three targets.

American Skeet

The American Skeet team made up of Jared Darby, Cole Rommel, Appel, Wayne Kidd, and Cassandra Douglas finished on top of the podium, three targets in front of another Lindenwood team.

Douglas continued her success in the event winning the women's American Skeet competition by missing just two targets. Four other Lady Lions also finished in the top 10.

International Skeet

A pair of Lindenwood teams finished in first and second in International Skeet. The team of Auerbach, Ozier, and Michael Hahn won the event by hitting nine more targets then another Lindenwood team.

Cody Reid finished in a three-way tie for the top honors in the International Skeet competition but won in a shoot-off missing just one of the extra 25. Auerbach was also in the three-way tie but finished third after two shoot-offs.

Hughes was the Lady Lions highest finisher at third place.
International Trap

The International Trap competition was dominated by the Lady Lions. Orle finished in first, Hughes finished in second, Rachel Hopkins finished third, and Geri Williams finished in seventh.

The women's event was dominated by Lindenwood and the team side was much of the same. Three Lindenwood team's finished first, second, and third.

Five Stand

Once again Hughes was the highest finisher for the Lady Lions but this time she was the top finisher. She missed just three targets and defeated her teammate Nikki Salvo by just three targets.

On the men's side, Matt Hughes finished tied for second after the first 50 targets but fell to fourth after he missed three targets in the extra clays.

In one of the closets team events the Lions held on to beat Bethel by three targets.  

Sporting Clays

Five out of the top 10 in the men's Sporting Clays were Lindenwood Lions led by Hughes who finished in second place. Hughes missed just five out of his first 100 targets but missed five in extras to fall to second. Van Sant, Print Zutavern, Colton Raley, and Auerbach round out the Lions other top 10 finishers.

The Lindenwood team dominated the team event in Sporting Clays. The Lions connected on 17 more targets that their closest opponent.
