The No. 20 Lindenwood men's basketball team fell in the NAIA Division I National Tournament Second Round on Friday afternoon with an 84-67 loss to No. 3 Mountain State. The Lions end their top season in school history with a 29-6 overall record.

Lindenwood started off slow offensively and dug an early deficit. The Lions fought back and were able to tie the game three times in the second half. However, the team ran out of energy in the final 12 minutes as Mountain State finished the game on a 39-22 run.

The Lions' offense had its worst shooting day of the season, starting with missing its first 11 shots from the field. That enabled Mountain State to gain a 9-0 lead before Lindenwood scored its first points over six minutes into the game. Lindenwood ended up shooting just 28.9 percent in the first half and it trailed 36-28 at halftime.

In the second half, Lindenwood opened the period on a 12-4 run to tie the game at 40. After several possessions of back-and-forth scoring, Mountain State went on a 17-3 run that proved to be the difference in the game.

Mountain State finished the game shooting 44.3 percent from the field, compared to 31.6 percent for Lindenwood. The Cougars also had 17 more rebounds. One of Lindenwood's strengths throughout the season was getting to the foul line, but it went a season-low nine times, compared to 19 free throw attempts for Mountain State.

Brett Thompson led the Lions with 14 points and eight rebounds. He was six of 12 from the field and also collected two assists and one block. Kramer Soderberg fought foul trouble the entire game but still finished with 14 points in less than 19 minutes of playing time. Alex Bazzell finished with 12 points and eight rebounds, and Michael Boos came off the bench to score 11. Those two players hit seven of Lindenwood's 12 three-pointers.

In their final collegiate games, Richard Rose had eight points and three assists, Alfred Nelson had four points and six rebounds, and David King had two points and four rebounds.
