Lindenwood Tops Rhode Island a Second Time to Place Third in ACHA National Tournament

The Lindenwood women's ice hockey team blanked Rhode Island 6-0 on Sunday afternoon to finish in third place at the ACHA National Tournament in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Shannon Murphy put the Lions in front early in the opening period. Neither team scored any goals in the first period after that point.

The second period was all Lindenwood, as it netted five goals in that period. Deven Staiger, Kelsey Talbot, and Christy Mason all scored within the first ten minutes of the period. Allysson Arcibal hit the back of the net with minutes after that. And with less than a minute remaining until the second intermission, Lisa Moreau put away the sixth goal for the Lions.

There was no scoring in the final period, and Lindenwood held onto the shutout behind Rebecca Bernet between the pipes. Bernet stopped 24 shots and recorded her second shutout of the tournament. Talbot tallied three assists in the win.

The Lions finished the national tournament with a 4-1 record and placed third. The win caps an excellent season for Lindenwood, going 33-3-2 overall and 12-1-1 in conference play.
