The Lindenwood women's ice hockey team won another CCWHA Tournament on Sunday. The Lady Lions have won all four conference tournament titles since they have been in the league.
Rebecca Bernet was the MVP of the tournament after allowing just two goals in three games.
Brett Lobreau was a first-team forward for the event and
Shea Crawford was a first-team forward.
Bernet clinched the MVP award with a great game in the championship contest against Grand Valley State. She stopped 26 shots in the 3-0 victory, including a breakaway and several power play opportunities for Grand Valley State in the second period when the Lady Lions led just 1-0.
That 1-0 lead came on a first-period goal by
Krystal Martin. After a scoreless second period,
Samantha Redick and
Miranda Schrock added insurance goals in the third.
In the semifinals, Lindenwood defeated Robert Morris by a 3-2 score. The game was a defensive battle throughout, with the only goal for the first 52 minutes coming from Lobreau in the second period.
Scoring picked up the final eight minutes though, with both teams scoring on a power play. Robert Morris then tied the game at two with 2:49 remaining. Just 25 seconds later,
Nicole Konsdorf scored the game-winning goal.
Allysson Arcibal had Lindenwood's second goal and assisted on the other two scores. Bernet was the winning goalie.
The Lady Lions won pool play at the tournament after wins over Ohio State and Northern Michigan.
Lindenwood opened up the tournament with a 10-0 win over Ohio State. Eight different Lady Lions scored goals in the contest. Lindenwood already led 3-0 midway through the second period when it put the game away with three goals in a six-minute span.
Kelsey Talbot and Arcibal led the offense with two goals and two assists apiece. The game-winner came from Redick, and other goals came from Martin, Lobreau,
Deven Staiger, Schrock, and
Christy Mason. Bernet had a shutout in goal.
The Lady Lions defeated Northern Michigan by a 13-0 score.
Kennedy Rupp earned the shutout in goal.
