The Lindenwood women's hockey team continues to get closer to its first victory over a NCAA Division I opponent. On Saturday in Syracuse, N.Y., the Lady Lions led in the third period and went into overtime versus Syracuse. The Orange scored though in the fourth minute of overtime for a 2-1 victory.
Neither team scored during the first two periods of the contest. Earlier in the third period, Lindenwood went on the power play and just 24 seconds into it,
Caitlyn Post scored a goal with an assist from
Alyssa West. The Lady Lions held the lead for nearly six minutes before Syracuse scored its own power-play goal.
Late in the third period, Lindenwood had two power-play chances, but it managed just one shot on goal during those opportunities. Syracuse took advantage and scored the game-winner at the 3:42 mark of overtime.
Taylor Fairchild stopped 45 of 47 shots in goal for the Lady Lions. Lindenwood had 17 shots in the game, including a team-high four from
Alison Wickenheiser. Both teams had five penalties and were one-of-five on the power play.
Lindenwood goes to 1-16-0 on the season after being swept by Syracuse. The Lady Lions will be in action again on Dec. 14-15 against another future conference opponent, Mercyhurst.
