The Lady Lions hockey team picked up its first win over a NCAA opponent on Friday night in St. Cloud, Minn. The team's offense exploded in the third period for a 7-1 victory over Saint Benedict.
The two teams played a scoreless first period before Saint Benedict scored at the 4:14 mark of the second period. Lindenwood quickly tied the game on a goal from
Kendra Broad. Just a minute later, Lindenwood took its first lead of the season when
Jordyn Constance scored an unassisted goal.
Defense took over again for the next 20 minutes before Lindenwood's offense found the back of the net five times in a 13-minute span in the third period. The team scored three power-play goals in the period and two even strength tallies. Goals came from
Allysson Arcibal,
Katie Erickson,
Alison Wickenheiser,
Amy Stober, and
Kelsey Talbot.
For the game, Wickenheiser had three points with two assists to go along with her goal. Arcibal, Erickson, Broad, and Constance each had one assist and two points, and
Brett Lobreau and
Alyssa West each collected two assists.
Taylor Fairchild made 15 saves in the game as she picked up the win in goal.
Lindenwood continues its road trip in St. Cloud on Saturday afternoon with a contest against St. Catherine.
