Women's Hockey Loses Another Contest Against No. 8 Mercyhurst

A key moment late in the first period swung momentum away from the Lindenwood women's ice hockey team and it could not recover. The Lady Lions lost to No. 8 Mercyhurst by a 14-1 score on Saturday afternoon at the Lindenwood Ice Arena.

Mercyhurst scored two goals in the first eight minutes of the game, but Lindenwood got within one with 3:20 left in the first quarter. The Lady Lions were on a power play and Alyssa West scored off assists from Brett Lobreau and Alison Wickenheiser.

Lindenwood nearly tied it less than a minute later but couldn't sneak a loose puck into the net right in front of the Mercyhurst goal. The Lakers quickly went the other way and score with 2:05 left in the period.

The rest of the game was all Mercyhurst after that point. The Lakers scored seven times in the second period, including four power-play goals. Mercyhurst found the back of the net four more times in the third period, including another power-play goal.

For the game, Mercyhurst had 70 shots on goal, compared to just 14 for Lindenwood. The Lady Lions had 16 penalty minutes, and was one-for-four on their power play. Mercyhurst finished five-of-seven on the power play and had five penalties for 10 minutes.

Lindenwoood takes a break from NCAA Division I opponents for a week next when it travels to Saint Benedict and St. Catherine next weekend. Both of those schools are NCAA Division III programs.
