Missouri State Survives Last-Minute Push by Lady Lions

The Lindenwood field hockey team was defeated by Missouri State by a score of 2-1 on Saturday night at Hunter Stadium.

The Bears maintained possession and kept continuous pressure on the Lady Lions' defense for the duration of the match. Hillary Lawless scored her eighth goal of the season to put the Bears in the lead in the 22nd minute. The teams went into halftime with Lindenwood down 1-0.

Twenty minutes into the second half, Laura Tavares netted her first goal of the season to give the Bears a two-goal cushion. Casey Bayliss assisted on both Missouri State goals. Even though Lindenwood was holding the lesser amount of the possession the Lady Lions never gave up. With less than a minute to play in regulation, Kayleigh Harrower managed to steal a pass deep in the Bears' zone and fired a shot into the far-side netting to bring Lindenwood within one goal. But in the end, Missouri State was able to hang on for the victory.

Samantha Brown played exceptional in goal for Lindenwood, making six saves, many of which were point-blank. Missouri State outshot the Lady Lions 13-5 and held a 10-2 advantage in penalty corners.

With the loss, Lindenwood drops to 1-10 on the season. The team will return to action Sunday in scrimmage against the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo.
