Lady Lions End Their Top Season in School History

The top season in Lindenwood women's lacrosse history came to a conclusion on Saturday with the Lady Lions earning fourth place in the WDIA National Tournament.

In the third place contest, Lindenwood fell to Colorado by a 13-8 score. The Buffaloes jumped out to an early lead, scoring the first five goals. The Lady Lions couldn't get out of that hole as they trailed 8-4 at halftime and were outscored 5-4 in the final half.

Justiene Groothuis led Lindenwood with three goals and an assist. Laura Boland ended the top career in program history with two goals and an assist. Lacey Vatland added a goal and assist, Kathryn St. George and Brittany Connolly each had one goal, and Ashley Bruce recorded four assists.

Christie Mearns and Caitlin Erickson split time in goal. Erickson saw the majority of action and made six saves.

Lindenwood ends the season with a 21-4 overall record. The Lady Lions won the WCLL Championship for the second straight season and were ranked No. 2 in the nation for much of the year.
