After winning the school's first national championship two weeks ago the Lion's table tennis team traveled to northern Indiana to compete in the 46th Robo-Pong St. Joseph Valley Open tournament.
Jose Barbosa fell in the finals of the under-2500 singles championship. In the semifinals, Barbosa edged the 2009 U.S. Under-22 Men's singles champion, Joey Cochran, (8-11, 11-7, 13-11, 11-5).
In the Under-2200 singles event, it was an all Lindenwood final with
Kris Frank getting the better of teammate, Yuvraaj Dookram, in three straight games. In the hardbat event, undefeated Lindenwood player Andre Irigoyen continued to show off his prowess as he dispatched Dookram by the scores of 18-21, 15-21, and 21-19.
In Sunday's competition, the Open doubles event was an all Lindenwood finals as Irigoyen and Barbosa battled against Yamazato and Rocha. Although Yamazato and Rocha took a 2-0 lead, the pair of Irigoyen and Barbosa came from behind and won the next four games.
In the Open Singles championship, a familiar match emerged as the same competitors from the previous day's Under-2500 advanced to the finals again. Lindenwood's Barbosa would again take on 5-time U.S. National Champion, Dan Seemiller Sr. With the title match tied at three game each the seventh and final game saw Barbosa winning 11-6 and taking the title.
In the Under-2350 event, another familiar duo emerged in the finals asKarin Fukushima emerged victorious over teammate Fred Cantarelli. Fukushima claimed the top prize in four games by the score of 3-1.
