New Lindenwood women’s basketball coach Tony Francis has announced that four high school seniors have signed to play with the Lady Lions next season. Cassie Bruemner and Shantey Hibbler come to Lindenwood from Collinsville High School, Marissa Lehnig comes from Seckman High School in Imperial, Mo., and Ashley Roth is from Incarnate Word Academy in St. Louis, Mo.
Lehnig, a four-year varsity starter at guard for Seckman, was one of the St. Louis area best scorers her senior season, averaging 19.6 points a game. Her scoring average was the highest in the Suburban South Conference and helped her earn the conference Player of the Year honor for the second consecutive year.
During her time at Seckman, she set the school records for points, steals, rebounds and assists. She was named to the all-conference first team three times and the first-team all-district all four years.
Hibbler, a forward, led Collinsville High School in scoring with over 14 points a game, and rebounding with 7.5 a game. She was named to the first-team All-Southwestern Conference, second-team all-area for large schools and also earned MVP honors at the Carbondale Tournament.
Bruemner, a point guard, is also from Collinsville where she teamed up with Hibbler to become a great one-two punch. During her senior season, she averaged just under 10 points a game and was second in the conference in three-pointers made per game. In both her junior and senior seasons, she was named to the All-Southwestern Conference third team. Not only did she excel on the court but she was also named a scholar-athlete.
Roth, another guard, comes to Lindenwood from one of the best girl’s basketball programs in the state, Incarnate Word. In 2009-10 Roth was a member of the Class 5 state championship team. During her senior season, she averaged just over 2.5 points a game and was named to the Rolla Tournament first team.
“As we begin restoring Lindenwood Women’s Basketball back into a perennial championship contender, it is important that our first recruiting class provides the qualities that will establish a strong foundation for the future success of the program,” said Francis. “The desired attributes of academics, character, work-ethic, and skill are found in each of these young ladies who are making the commitment toward our new vision.”
