The 2010 National Collegiate Roller Hockey National Championship continued on Thursday in San Jose, California. After opening pool play on Wednesday with a win and a loss the Lions would tie local rival, University of Missouri-St. Louis, 4-4.
It didn't take the Lions long to get on the scoreboard against the Tritons as Wesley Schaeffer would score just four minutes into the game. But they didn't hold the lead for long as UMSL would net the tying goal with just over one minute to play in the opening period.
Once again in the second period the Lions would score the first goal but UMSL would dominate the rest of the period scoring three goals to take a 4-2 lead in to the third period.
Trailing by two goals Lindenwood would cut the lead in half when Michael Inouye scored his 25th goal of the season. Just five minutes later the Lions would even the score with a short handed goal by Sean Sullivan. Neither team could net the game-winning goal and would end in a 4-4 deadlock.
In the opening game of poll play on Wednesday night the Lions lost for the first time this season. The University of Buffalo beat the Lions, 7-2.
Buffalo jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game but the Lions would answer with a goal by Jake Hill to cut the lead to one after the first period.
The second period was all Buffalo. They would net three goals including two power play goals and would take a commanding 5-1 lead into the third period.
The final period started with Buffalo netting two more goals to extend the lead to 7-1. Lindenwood would net a late goal but would eventual lose their first game of the season.
After the loss the Lions didn't have much time to think about the loss as the team was right back at it against Michigan State. Lindenwood would answer the bell at defeat the Spartans, 5-2.
Game two started with Lindenwood scoring just 55 seconds into the period. Michigan State would answer right back and tie the score less than a minute later.
With the game tied at one in the second period Travis Bokina and Adam Aitken would score the lone goals of the period giving the Lions a 3-1 lead going into the final period.
Sean Sullivan would put the game away for the Lions in the third period with two goals to help lead Lindenwood to the 5-2 win.
The Lions will be right back in action tomorrow in San Jose at 6:30 p.m. in the first round of bracket play.
