The Lindenwood Lions continue their excellence in table tennis by winning multiple titles at this year's 2010 Saint Peters April Open.
In the open singles event freshman Fernando Yamazato took top honors by defeating fellow teammate Paulo Rocha by the score of 11-5, 8-11, 11-6, 11-6. Yamazato's route to the title including knocking off the top ranked, Yin Wang, from Texas.
In the Under-2350 event Fred Cantarelli was not to be denied as he out battled Lady Lion Karin Fukushima by the closest of margins winning in the final game 11-9.
Munkhbold Bayarsaikhan fell short of winning the Under-2150 event losing in the finals to Richard Martin of Kansas by the score of 11-7, 12-10, 5-11 and 11-9.
Lindenwood returned on Sunday of this 2-day tournament to compete in the Giant Singles round robin. Lindenwood's Rocha took second place and teammate Yamazato took third.
In a battle of Trinidad & Tobago players at Lindenwood, Frank edged out Dookram for bragging rights in the Class B event. Lady Lion Esther Gusov took second place in the Class D event.
Next up for the Lions is the 46th Robo-Pong St. Joseph Valley Open in South Bend, Indiana on May 1-2.
