The No. 16 Lindenwood men’s lacrosse team survived an upset scare on Sunday with a 14-10 victory over unranked Miami (Fla.) at Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo.
Sam Spallitta got the Lions off to a good start with four first quarter goals, helping Lindenwood open up a 5-3 lead. Lindenwood only scored once in the second period though and the Hurricanes took advantage and led 7-6 at halftime.
The third quarter saw three ties, the last at 9-9.
Jack Carroll broke that tie with a goal with less than three minutes remaining in the period. Lindenwood would never trail again as
Greg Cameron and Spallitta built the Lions lead to 12-9, and then, after Miami scored,
Jordan McKay put the game away with a pair of goals.
Spallitta finished with eight points, scoring five goals and collecting three assists. McKay had four goals and one assist, and Cameron recorded two goals.
Lindenwood improves to 4-4 on the year. Next weekend, the Lions will host Minnesota State Mankato and Central Michigan.
