Lions Sweep Baker
Cody Anderson had the game-winning hit in the first game against Baker,
The Lindenwood Lions baseball team got their conference record back even with a two game sweep of the visiting Baker Wildcats on Sunday afternoon at the Lou Brock Sports Complex. The Lions won game one 4-2 and the second 13-5.
In the opening game of the double header the Lions jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. The frame started with Shelby Anderson doubling off the left centerfield wall and Frank Corpus being hit by a pitch. Right fielder Mike Gumm then singled home both Anderson and Corpus giving the Lions a 2-0 lead.
Lindenwood starter Chris Johnson retired the first nine hitters and then ran into trouble in the fourth inning. Bryce Daily singled to lead off the inning followed by Steven Stewart who reached on a fielder’s choice. With a runner on Nick Peterson tied the game with a two-run home run.
The game would stay tied to the bottom of the sixth inning. Third baseman Carlos Pianetta led off the inning being hit by a pitch. Dan Harris would pinch run for Pianetta and would advance to second on a passed ball. Lindenwood would eventually load the bases with no outs. Dylan Lowery would have the first attempt at being the hero but popped up the shortstop. Next up was pinch hitter Ryan Farris who struck out. With two outs it was up to Cody Anderson and he delivered with a two out single to give the Lions the lead that they would hold onto for the win.
The final game of the doubleheader was a slugfest. Both teams combined for 18 runs and 18 hits. Lindenwood would jump out to a 7-0 lead after two innings but Baker would score two in the top of the third. The Lions would answer right back with two more in the third, four in the fifth and roll to a 13-5 win.
Bryce Holland led the way at the plate going 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and a RBI. Shelby Anderson was also 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Pianetta drove in three runs.
With the sweep the Lions improve to 18-8 overall and 3-3 in conference play. Lindenwood will take on MidAmerica Nazarene on Tuesday afternoon in St. Charles.
