Former Lindenwood running back DeDe Dorsey signed a two-year contract with the Detroit Lions on Tuesday. The Lions will be the third NFL team during his professional career.
Dorsey has played in 29 career NFL games, starting in 2006 with the Indianapolis Colts where he was a member of that year's Super Bowl Championship team. The last three seasons, Dorsey has been with the Cincinnati Bengals. He has been a special teams contributor with the Colts and Bengals and also carried the ball 26 times for 191 yards.
After being released by Cincinnati after week one of the NFL season last year, Dorsey played in the United Football League and was the MVP of the inaugural championship game for the Las Vegas Locomotives.
Dorsey played for Lindenwood in 2004 and 2005. After converting to running back midway through the 2004 season, Dorsey rushed for 2,541 yards and scored 27 touchdowns in just 16 games. He became the first Lion to earn AFCA All-American honors when he rushed for 1,600 yards and 16 touchdowns, and had two receiving touchdowns during his senior season. That final year, he ranked in the top 10 in the NAIA in rushing, scoring, and all-purpose yards.
