Lady Lions Sweep Alaska-Fairbanks
Shea-Crawford-(09-10)
The No. 1 Lindenwood women's ice hockey team swept the University of Alaska-Fairbanks Thursday night with a convincing 7-1 win.

In their best transition game of the year, the Lady Lions had six different players score on the evening, led by Kali Frederick who scored twice.

Mandy Dion, Sarah Oliphant and Frederick all had first period scores for Lindenwood. In the second, it was much of the same with Alexandra Johansson, Robbyn Keating and Shannon Murphy finding the back of the net.

In the final period, Frederick scored less than a minute in to cap the scoring for the Lions. The Nanooks broke up the shutout scoring with 52 seconds remaining.

The Lady Lions outshot the Nanooks 40-28. Rebecca Bernet earned the victory in goal, stopping 27 shots.

Wednesday night, Lindenwood returned from Christmas break and skated to a 4-2 win over visiting Alaska-Fairbanks.

The Nanooks opened the scoring midway through the first period with a shorthanded goal, but the Lady Lions evened the score with less than two minutes remaining in the frame on a Oliphant tally.

In the second, Lindenwood took control, scoring twice in a span of 30 seconds. Dion would score the first of her two goals and Brett Lobreau would stretch the lead to 3-1, scoring moments later.

Dion scored again in the opening moments of the third period to give the Lady Lions their largest lead. The Nanooks would score at the eight minute mark to cap the scoring.

Bernet faced 10 shots in goal to earn the win and Janella Brodett finished with a pair of assists.

Lindenwood (18-1-1, 8-0) will travel to the east coast next week for games against the University of Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
