The Lindenwood field hockey concluded its season with a 2-1 victory over visiting Sewanee College (Tenn.) this afternoon. After starting the year 0-4, the Lady Lions won six of their final seven games.

The first half was a fast-paced affair as the two teams combined for 17 shots. Lindenwood struck first when Haley McCulloch fired a centering pass from the right side to a converging Lauren Cato, who slipped it past Sewanee's Emily Detmer.

After Sewanee tied the game at one with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first half, the Lady Lions took advantage of a Tigers miscue. Kayleigh Harrower intercepted a pass near midfield and began the breakaway with McCulloch and Cato trailing. Seconds before Detmer attempted to make a diving stop, Harrower found Cato to put the Lady Lions on top for good. The goal was Cato's team leading ninth goal.

In the second half, the pace slowed as the two teams played to a defensive stalemate.

Defensively, Lindenwood was superb on the afternoon, including two team saves by the Lady Lions after balls had trickled past goalie Caitlin Erickson.

The Sewanee Tigers outshot Lindenwood 17-9 and held the advantage in penalty corners, 12-5.

Erickson made nine saves on the day to propel the Lady Lions to the win. Lindenwood finishes 6-5 on the year under first year head coach Meg Lake.
