St. Charles, MO – April 19, 2006 – After winning the ACHA National Championships and having seven team members get tournament awards one would think things would slow down. Not so fast. The ACHA has announced its annual league awards and with those announcements came more national recognition for the women’s ice hockey team. The league MVP award went to team captain Kat Hannah. Along with Hannah, Junior forward Katie Kells, Junior defense Veronica Metcalf and Freshman goalie Michelle Borsa picked up 2nd team All-American honors and Junior Amy Dlugos and Senior Dawn Dyer received All-Academic honors.
“Obviously with our team success, we knew that we would get some individual recognition. I am very proud of the girls who were recognized for their academic and All-American honors, but none of the individual honors could have come without our great team play,” said head coach Vince O’Mara.
Head coach Vince O’Mara also took home some honors. He was announced as the 2005-2006 ACHA women’s division coach of the year.
“It is a great honor to receive the award, there might have been a coach or two more deserved but I am very happy to win. I want to give credit to my girls and my assistant coach Rick Pratt. Without their hard work this season, I would never have been in a position to win this award,” said coach O’Mara.
