The No. 6 Lindenwood women's lacrosse team ended its regular season on Sunday afternoon with a 10-9 overtime victory over No. 8 UCLA at Hunter Stadium. The Lady Lions finished the Lindenwood Invitational with a 4-0 record, with all four wins coming by just a single goal.
Lindenwood led 3-1 early in the contest but the Lady Lions did not score for the final 17 minutes of the first half, and the two teams were tied at three at halftime. In the second half, there were four ties, including three in which the Lady Lions overcame a deficit. UCLA led in the final two minutes of the game, but a goal with 1:07 remaining by
Justiene Groothuis sent the game into overtime.
Both teams scored once in the first overtime, as
Kathryn St. George's goal with under two minutes sent the game into double overtime. After a scoreless second overtime period, the game went into sudden death, and
Lexi Crusha scored the game-winner with just 4.3 seconds left on the clock.
Lindenwood had a balanced offensive attack with six different players scoring. Crusha led the way with four goals and an assist. Groothuis scored twice, and St. George,
Kelsey Anderson,
Kara Cashen, and
Eleni Papadakos each had one goal. Papadakos also had a team-high four groundballs, and
Christine Hehmeyer made five saves in goal.
The Lady Lions end their regular season with a 13-4 overall record. Lindenwood will learn its national tournament seed on April 18.
