Women's Lacrosse Continues Winning Streak On Saturday

The Lindenwood women’s lacrosse team moved its winning streak to seven games and stayed perfect on its home field with a 17-5 win over Illinois and 19-2 victory over Marquette.

Against Illinois, Laura Boland led the offense with five goals and two assists. Lacey Vatland and Meghan Chase each had a hat trick, and Ashley Bruce had a pair of scores.

Kathyrn St. George led the team with six groundballs. Christie Mearns and Caitlin Erickson split time in goal and combined to make five saves.

Bruce was the team leader against Marquette, collecting three goals, three assists, and five groundballs. Boland and Justiene Groothuis also netted three scores, and Kristen Papadakos, Vatland, and Jackie Heinke all had a pair of goals. All three Lady Lions goalies saw time in goal during the victory.

The Lady Lions are now 8-1 on the year and 4-0 against conference opponents. The team is in action against on Friday versus No. 7 Colorado.

Athletes of the Week
Mike Emerick
Men's Volleyball
Mike Emerick was named the 2009-10 Lindenwood Male Student-Athlete of the Year. Emerick, a men's volleyball player, was named the MAMVIC West Conference Libero of the Year for the second straight season. He collected 442 digs for an average of 3.5 digs a game, and was named the National Libero of the Week four times. Emerick is a Finance major at Lindenwood.
Cassie Williams
Women's Basketball
Cassie Williams was named the 2009-10 Lindenwood Female Student-Athlete of the Year. Williams, a women's basketball player, averaged 9.1 points and 7.3 rebounds for the Lady Lions last season. The four-year letterwinner finished her career with over 700 points and 500 rebounds, and nearly 200 assists. Williams is an Exercise Science major at Lindenwood.
