After a long weekend in St. Peters, the 2010 NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships are in the books with the men finishing in third place with 477 points and the women finished in 10th place scoring 139 points. After everything was over the men’s and women’s teams had seven individual All-Americans and 16 All-American awards.
Not only did the Lindenwood swimmers receive numerous honors, head coach Craig Penrose was named men’s coach of year.
Day Four Recap
Day four ended with several school records being set. On the men’s side, not only did Javier Hernandez break the school record in the 200 yard butterfly, he shattered the NAIA record. The freshman from Honduras set the school record by almost eight seconds while finishing on top of the podium.
The 200 yard breaststroke record was also broken when
Sergio Molina finished in first place. The native of Spain broke the record by almost eight seconds.
DJ Ashruf finished fourth in the 100 yard freestyle breaking the school record and Ubaldo Zavaleto also set a school mark in the 1650 yard freestyle while finishing fifth. The 400 yard freestyle relay team finished in fourth place.
In the 200 backstroke consolation final Simon Morley finished in first place. In other consolation finals Aaron Saule placed seventh in the200 breaststroke.
On the women’s side Sarah Billamosa continued her successful meet with a fourth place finish in the 200 yard butterfly.
In consolations finals Briana Preiss finished in second place in the 200 yard backstroke, Ashton Friedley placed sixth in the 100 yard freestyle and the 400 yard freestyle team placed second.
Day Three Recap
It was a very successful day for both the men’s and women’s teams on day three. Leading the way was Sarah Billasoma who won the 400 individual medley which garnered her All-American honors. Also on the women’s side the 200 yard freestyle relay team finished the consolation final in 10
th place as did the 400 yard medley relay.
For the third time in the meet Javier Hernandez was named an All-American after he finished second in the 100 yard fly. In the same race, teammate Chris Rojas finished in sixth place. Carlos Tejero and Simon Morley finished fifth and seventh respectively in the 100 yard backstroke.
Two relay teams also had success on Friday night. The 400 medley relay team of Morley, Molina, Hernandez and Ashruf finished in second place behind Fresno Pacific. In the 200 freestyle relay the Lions placed in sixth place.
In consolation finals, Ubaldo Zavaleta and Nick Philips placed 10th and 11th in the 200 yard freestyle.
Day Two Recap
Day two is in the books and the both the men’s and women’s teams performed well. Leading the way for the men’s squad was the 200 yard medley relay team who finished fourth in the preliminaries but improved on that in the finals finishing in second place. With the runner-up finish the relay team of

DJ Ashruf al l were named All-Americans.
For the second time in the championships Javier Hernandez finished with All-American status, this time in the 200 yard individual medley. The freshman finished in third place while teammate, Sergio Molina, finished in fifth.
On the diving side of the competition Collin Sharpe earned All-American honors with his second place finish in the one meter event. Teammates John Toczek and John Rudle finished in fifth and seventh respectively.
Freshman Ubaldo Zavaleta improved his preliminary time in the 500 freestyle and finished in sixth place. In the consolation final of the 50 yard freestyle, Ashruf, placed in third place. The final event of the day was the 800 yard freestyle relay and the Lions finished in seventh .
On the women’s side Sarah Billamosa led the way for the Lady Lions. In the 2009 national championship she finished in ninth place in the 200 yard individual medley but in 2010 she improved on that finish, placing in third and receiving All-American honors. In the consolation finals of 200 yard medley relay the Lady Lions finished in 10th place.

The one and three meter diving events were held on day one and the three Lions finished in the top six. In the three meter diving event
John Toczek finished in second place behind national champion, Trevor Graifman, of California Baptist. The second place finish helped Toczek garner All-American honors. Other Lion finishers were Colin Sharpe and
