The No. 3 Lindenwood women’s lacrosse team picked up one of its biggest wins of the season on Friday evening with a 15-10 victory over No. 6 Colorado at Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo.
Despite a Lindenwood goal just 13 seconds into the game, the Buffaloes controlled the game early with a 4-2 lead less than 17 minutes into the game. The Lady Lions scored the final four goals of the half to go up 6-4, and the opened the second half on a 4-1 run to lead 10-5.
Colorado had one more run in them, scoring four goals in four minutes to cut Lindenwood’s lead to one, but the Lady Lions dominated the final 11 minutes of the game as it pulled away for a five-goal victory.
Kathyrn St. George and
Justiene Groothuis led the way for Lindenwood. Both played all 60 minutes and scored four goals apiece, and the duo combined for 14 ground balls.
Laura Boland also scored four times and had six points.
Lacey Vatland added two goals, three assists, three draw controls, and two ground balls.
Jackie Henke had a line of one goal, two assists, and five ground balls, and
Katie Veile had four ground balls and two turnovers.
Eleni Papadakos had eight draw controls, and
Christie Mearns earned the win in goal, making 11 saves.
Lindenwood improves to 9-1 on the year and has now won eight straight. The Lady Lions have to wait a few weeks before it can try to extend that winning streak, as they do not play again until March 26-28 at the A-Town Throwdown in Athens, Ga.
