Lady Lions Fall to Illinois-Springfield
The Lindenwood Lady Lions basketball team traveled to Springfield, Illinois on Monday night to take on NCAA Division II, University of Illinois-Springfield. Lindenwood would leave Springfield after suffering a 64-57 loss.

Both teams started off slowly taking almost two minutes for the first points to be scored in the game. Lindenwood would finally scored the first points and went on 10-2 run to take an eight point lead capped off by an Abby Schultenhenrich three-pointer.

Following the Lady Lions’ run was a run by the home team. The Prairie Stars would go on a 13-2 spurt to give them their first lead of the game at the 11:34 mark of the first half. The lead would go between the teams until 6:46 mark when the home team would once again claim the lead and take a 34-29 lead into the locker room.

The second half would begin with the Illinois-Springfield extending the lead to eight but just could not put the Lady Lions away. At the 6:55 mark in the second half Lindenwood senior Gina Ferrer would cap of an 8-2 run with a jumper and it would give Lindenwood the lead. That lead would not last long as the Prairie Stars would close out the game on a 11-3 run in the final four minutes to beat the Lady Lions.

Leading the way for the Lady Lions was Kelly Albers who compiled her fourth double-double of the year with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Cassie Williams and Schultenhenrich chipped in eight points apiece.

Lindenwood struggled shooting the basketball going 17-for-59 (28 percent) and only 26 percent from behind the arc. The loss to the NCAA squad was the second of the year for Lindenwood after they fell to the University of Missouri-St. Louis earlier in the season.

Lindenwood will get back into conference play on Thursday night against Missouri Valley at the Hyland Performance Arena.
