After being held scoreless for the first 58 minutes of Saturday night's game against No. 8 Arizona State, the Lindenwood men's ice hockey team erupted for two quick scores in the closing moments of regulation, and won in overtime 3-2.
Already scoring once in the first, Arizona State would score a power play goal with two seconds to go in second period to take a 2-0 advantage into the final frame.
Neeco Belanger would ignite the Lindenwood comeback, scoring with less than two minutes remaining after the Lions had pulled goalie Chris Abbott. In the final seconds, Adam Krefski would send the game into overtime with his third goal of the weekend.
Saving their best for last again, the Lions would complete the comeback on a Chad Boeckman tally with 32 seconds remaining.
Abbott made 57 stops on the night and Boeckman would add a pair of assists in the win.
Lindenwood skated to a 4-1 win over Arizona State Friday night. For the Lions, the victory marked the third consecutive season in which the program has reached the 30 win plateau.
With less than two minutes remaining in the first period,
Cory Spradling notched a power play goal to give Lindenwood a 1-0 lead. Krefski would stretch that lead to two with a score in the second, and Spradling would score again moments later to push it to three.
Arizona State would get on the scoreboard early in the third and cut the deficit to 3-1, but Krefski tallied another goal in the closing minutes of the game to cap the scoring.
Bret Morrell finished with two assists and Spradling added another.
In the latest ACHA Division I hockey poll that was released Friday, the Lions received 31 of 37 possible first place votes to remain atop the polls for the seventh straight time this season.
Lindenwood (31-3, 12-2) will return home next weekend to host Kent State.
