Men's Ice Hockey Bounces Back to Defeat Davenport

The No. 1 Lindenwood men's ice hockey team defeated Davenport (Mich.) Tuesday night in Tempe, Ariz.., 4-1.

After skating to a scoreless first period, Steve Balint scored in the opening moments of the second to give the Lions a brief 1-0 lead. Davenport would tie the game later in the period, but Jake Ebner scored in the final minute of the frame to give Lindenwood a 2-1 lead going into the third.

Ebner would score again in the third and with seconds remaining Grant Gorczyca would score an empty net tally.

Lindenwood fell in a shootout to Davenport (Mich.) Tuesday night, 5-4. The game was played at a neutral site in Tempe, Ariz.

Jake Ebner scored in the opening minutes to give the Lions an early lead. Davenport would respond with a goal of its own, but with less than six minutes remaining in the opening period, Ebner found the back of the net again to put Lindenwood back on top.

Ebner completed the hat trick early in the second period, but the Panthers would rattle off three straight goals to take a 4-3 lead midway through the third. Adam Krefski’s goal with two minutes remaining tied the game at four and eventually sent the contest into overtime.

After a scoreless extra period, the two teams went to a shootout. The Panthers converted on their first attempt and Ebner equaled that with a score of his own. On their second chance, the Panthers would score again and two straight saves by the Davenport goalie completed the upset.

Lindenwood (29-3, 12-2) will play at Arizona State this weekend.

Women's Ice Hockey
Mandy Dion helped the Lady Lions ice hockey team win its third straight national championship and was named MVP of the tournament. She scored 11 goals in five games at the national event and had three hat tricks.
Cory Spradling
Men's Ice Hockey
Cory Spradling was named the tournament MVP for the Lindenwood men's ice hockey as it won its second straight national title. Spradling scored the game-winning goal in a 2-0 victory over Iowa State in the championshp game. He also scored twice in a 4-0 semifinal victory over Central Oklahoma.
