Lindenwood Shooting Wins National Championship

Mar. 22, 2009- The Lindenwood shotgun shooting team won its sixth straight national collegiate championship on Sunday after dominating the four-day event. The Lions finished by hitting 1,562 targets, 67 more than runner-up Missouri.

Lindenwood swept the Top Six spots in the men’s rankings, led by individual champion Robert Auerbach who finished with a score of 386. The program also swept the Top Three spots in the women’s individual rankings, led by women’s champion Alexandra Chiang with 362 points.

Finishing in the Top Ten on the men’s side were Travis Mears, Jon Shockley, Camden Clayton, Nicholas Gamel, Jesse Molstre, Robby Wahlbrink, and Matt Schutzius. Mears finished four shots behind Auerbach, and the rest of Lindenwood’s Top Ten was in the 367 and 375 range.

Finishing behind Chiang in the women’s standing were Jessica Forbes and Jenna Mclean. Forbes hit 350 targets during the event, one more than Mclean.

Other individual awards included Shockley winning the overall combined American titles, Auerbach capturing the overall international events and the combined skeet titles.

In Sunday’s final event, international skeet, Lindenwood won the team title with 280 targets, easily defeating runner-up Missouri who had 238 targets. Chiang won her overall championship after winning the event with 98 targets. Auerbach finished second on the men’s side with 95 targets.
