The Lindenwood men's ice hockey team slipped past Western Michigan, Saturday afternoon, by a 3-1 score. The win improved the Lions to 12-0 in the CSCHL and ran their winning streak to 27 games.
Alex Roth scored a power play goal midway through the first period to give the Lions a 1-0 advantage. Roth would add another goal in the second but Western Michigan cut the deficit to one in the final seconds of the frame.
Tim Gardner put the Lions back up by two early in the third with his third goal of the season.
The Lions, who outshot Western Michigan 47-25, held the Stallions scoreless on seven power play opportunities.
Robi Cavallari stopped 24 of 25 shots to pick up the win in goal.
On Friday, the Lions scored eight goals in the second period en-route to defeating Western Michigan Friday night, 10-1. A double-five minute major penalty was the turning point in the game and the Lions would score six power play goals as a result.
Cory Spradling put the Lions on the board first and
Grant Gorczyca netted a power play goal to give Lindenwood a 2-0 lead going into the middle period.
Adam Krefski would score the first of his two goals and Gorczyca added another moments later to push the lead to four early in the second.
Midway through the frame, Western Michigan would commit the double major penalty that would put the game away. Skating with a 5-3 man advantage, the Lions would score six power play goals over the next ten minutes.
Chad Boeckman, Chad Rankin,
Steve Kowalczyk,
Ryan Divito, Roth and Krefski would all find the back of the net. Western Michigan would add a power play goal in the third to end the scoring.
Chris Abbott made the start in goal, stopping 20 of 21 shots to earn the win.
Lindenwood (22-0, 12-0), who has won a school best 22 straight games to start the season, will host Adrian College next weekend for a pair of games.
