Several Lindenwood women’s ice hockey players have been selected to represent Team USA at the upcoming 2011 Winter World University Games in Erzurum, Turkey. It marks the first time the U.S. will be sending a women's team to the biannual event.

The Lindenwood hockey program as a whole has become a national powerhouse on the ice and the court over the years. Coming into 2009 the Lindenwood men’s ice hockey, women’s ice hockey and roller hockey had won 15 national championships in nine years. But one thing has not happened until 2009-10. For the first time, all three programs were crowned national champions, pulling off the hockey “triple crown.” The three programs combined for an amazing 113-8-3 record in 2009-10.

Lindenwood women’s ice hockey player Amanda Blanc was named an Academic All-American on Thursday morning, becoming the second Lindenwood student-athlete to earn the honor over the last two years. Blanc was selected to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American third-team for the women’s at-large category.

Men’s volleyball player Mike Emerick was selected all-district for the second straight year in the men’s at-large category, and women’s ice hockey player Amanda Blanc earned the honor for the first time in the women’s at-large category.

After breezing past its first two opponents in pool play, the top seeded Lindenwood women's ice hockey team received a scare Friday night at the ACHA Division I National Tournament in Blaine, Minn. The Lady Lions led 5-2 entering the final period, but a furious charge by Grand Valley State nearly spoiled the team's chances at repeating as national champions. However, Lindenwood escaped with a 5-4 win and advanced to Saturday night's national semifinal.
